Historic & Prehistoric Foundation
The Grande Cache Historic and Prehistoric Foundation is an independent organization that uses multimedia and transmedia to share the story of the region. We are non-partisan volunteers doing traditional research and educational program. Grande Cache Historic and Prehistoric Foundation believes in demonstrating the benefits of traditional knowledge in collaboration with scientific research.
Grande Cache Historic and Prehistoric Foundation became a society under the Alberta Societies Act in 2008. The main office and administration is located at 4600 Pine Plaza, Grande Cache Alberta.
While we recognize the merits of modern science as one valid tool, however we strongly believe that old time traditional knowledge should be used in conjunction with scientific research. We focus on a traditional understanding of the Rocky Mountain biodiversity, which is defined as the variation of life forms within an ecosystem of which we believe the mountain community has a superior understanding.
Grande Cache Historic and Prehistoric Foundation believes that it is important to maintain the ecological integrity with the Rocky Mountain region, taking into consideration age-old knowledge of the traditional land users. Common-sense information has been around for hundreds of years. Grande Cache Historic and Prehistoric Foundation’s position is that public policy should be made up from sound recommendations that would include input from not only the scientific community, but from a wide base of traditional knowledge.
Grande Cache Historic and Prehistoric Foundation gathers traditional information from hunters, guides, outfitters, trappers, aboriginal people, mountain men, and recreational users. This organization will provide this data to the scientific community, so that a wider input will influence public policies. Sound public policies and legislation must be based on BOTH scientific research and traditional knowledge.
